Republican Dick Cheney Supports Harris' Candidacy

Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney, who served under George W. Bush, has announced that he will vote for Democratic candidate and current Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election on November 5. Cheney, a prominent figure in the Bush administration, made this announcement on Friday, September 6. The news was first shared by his daughter, Liz Cheney, according to an Associated Press report.

The AP notes that Cheney's endorsement is seen less as support for Harris and more as a stance against Republican candidate Donald Trump. Cheney expressed that Trump "can never be trusted with power again" and emphasized the importance of prioritizing the Constitution and the country over party allegiance.

Kamala Harris' campaign welcomed Cheney's remarks with enthusiasm. "The Vice President is honored by Cheney's support and deeply admires his bravery," stated campaign chairwoman Jen O'Malley Dillon.

In response, former President Donald Trump, who is seeking re-election, took to his social media platform Truth to label Cheney as an "irrelevant RINO"—an acronym for "Republican in Name Only." Trump also criticized Cheney as "the king of endless senseless wars," alluding to his role in the Iraq War.

Dick Cheney's endorsement adds to a growing list of Republican figures who have voiced concerns about Trump's candidacy. Notably, Cheney's daughter, Liz Cheney, has also supported Kamala Harris. Liz Cheney, a former member of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riots and one of the ten Republicans who voted to impeach Trump following the violence, has similarly distanced herself from the former President.
